Imagine if your local bus stop allowed you to check your e-mail, share community information on a digital message board or monitor the local air quality? And perhaps best of all, what if it could tell you the exact location of that bus that you’re waiting for? Massachusetts Institute of Technology opens the door to the future with this bus shelter 2.0 named – EyeStop Concept.

The EyeStop is partially covered with touch-sensitive e-INK and screens, and features state-of-the art sensing technologies and a variety of interactive services. Riders can plan a bus trip on an interactive map, surf the Web, monitor their real-time exposure to pollutants and use their mobile devices as an interface with the bus shelter. They can also post ads and community announcements to an electronic bulletin board at the bus stop, enhancing the EyeStop’s functionality as a community gathering space.

In addition to displaying information, the bus stop also acts as an active environmental sensing node, powering itself
through sunlight and collecting real-time information about the surrounding environment.

Unlike the typical mass-produced bus stop, EyeStop is designed to fit the physical characteristics of its surroundings. A computer program generates a unique design for each bus stop, providing both optimal sheltering for users and maximum sunlight exposure for power generation. Simple materials like steel, glass and gray local stone (“pietra serena,” as it is called locally), together with its minimalist design, will help the EyeStop blend into the historic urban fabric of Florence, or wherever else it might be deployed.

EyeStop was developed at the SENSEable City Laboratory by Giovanni de Niederhausern, Shaocong Zhou, Assaf Biderman and Carlo Ratti, in collaboration with the Province of Florence and the local public transportation authority ATAF.

Can’t wait to see this on the streets.

If you like it, share it!!

Sometimes you feel that your umbrella is too big or too long or even to heavy for you. With this design one all this problems can be solved.

With this umbrella the barrier between you and the raindrops is a sheet of steady air that is blown out by this hollow pipe. You can control the length of the stick and the size of the air canopy, depending how many friends you are taking with you.

Pretty great.

They are saying that this kind of umbrella is eco-friendly! But what about batteries for this umbrella? Are they eco-friendly?

Letout Outlet

Keep your electric outlets organized and safe while removing unnecessary clutter. Never have to search for an outlet multiplier again. Keep it simple, with only one push.… more By pressing the top of the outlet you release the rest of it’s body and the remaining outlets that were hidden inside the wall. Push back when you don’t need additional outlets.

Recoiling Socket In The Wall

Rambler Socket maybe the solution most of us are looking for as far as extension cords are concerned. I mean if you hit “Extension Cord” on YD, for most of the posts you will see readers nitpicking and finding fault with the design. Here’s why Rambler Socket will knock your socks off. It’s this 1.5 meters cord that unfurls from a cavity behind its socket. When you don’t need extensions, it’s neatly tucked away. When you need it, simply pinch the sides and wind it out.

After the deed is done, you simply give the wire a gentle tug (activates a spring mechanism), and it recoils back into place. Ideal for using with electronics like vacuum cleaners, hair driers etc where you don’t need extension cords on a full-time basis.

Earlier i wrote about a post with a video shoot of UltraSn0w, the software by the iPhone Dev team which allows you to unlock your iPhone 3GS. In this article, lets walkthrough another interesting software for unlocking your Apple iPhone 3GS, called PurpleSn0w by George Hotz. The two key terms to be aware about when unlocking your iPhone 3GS using PurpleSn0w are “jailbreaking” and “unlocking” ( from an Apple iPhone context).

Apple by default, doesn’t allow installing unapproved applications ( third party applications) on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Therefore, whenever you read about Jailbreaking an iPhone, all it refers to, is the hack which can allow installation of third party applications on your iPhone or iPod Touch. These third party applications are available through searcheable repositories provided by applications like Cydia and Icy.

Unlocking your Apple iPhone on the other hand refers to the hack which lets you use your Apple iPhone on another cellular network.

This article assumes that you have a Jailbroken Apple iPhone and walks you through the step by step process of unlocking an Apple iPhone 3GS using PurpleSn0w.

As per George Hotz, author of Purplesn0w

Purplesn0w is a soft unlock for your 3GS that I’d actually use day to day. It’s not a daemon that takes any resources, and it doesn’t add a task to your baseband. It’s very close to a true unlock. All it does is patch three files, CommCenter, lockdownd, and your wildcard activation plist(which you need, activate w at&t sim first, no hacktivation support yet). That’s it, no other files are installed. Props to Oranav for the at+xlog exploit!

In order to unlock your Apple iPhone 3GS, follow the steps below. As always, do ensure that you have taken a backup of your jailbroken Apple iPhone 3GS before following the steps below.

1. Disable 3G: Go to “Settings” –> “General” –> “Network” and then tap the slider that reads “Enable 3G” to set it to the OFF position. Exit back to the main screen when finished.

2. Add the Geohot Repository to Cydia: Since you have already jailbroken your iPhone, you should have the Cydia app on your iPhone’s screen. Launch the app and select “Manage” from the set of buttons at the bottom of the screen. Tap “Sources” –> “Edit” –> “Add.” Type in apt.geohot.com and hit “Add Source” when done. Tap the “done” button and exit out of the “Manage” section.

3. Install purplesn0w: Look for “Purplesn0w” using Cydia’s search utility. You need to lookout for the package com.geohot.purplesn0w. Once found, tap to see the details. Next, tap the “Install” button and then the “Confirm” button just as if you were installing any other Cydia app. Wait while it installs and watch for the success message output in Cydia. Tap “Return to Cydia” when it’s finished installing and then exit from the Cydia app entirely.

4. Reboot your iPhone: Keep the power button pressed until you see the message “slide to power off” appear. Use the slider to power off your device then turn it back on.

Once you have followed the steps mentioned in points 1 to 4 above, your iPhone 3GS will be unlocked.

The iPhone Dev Team recently published a video about using the Ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone 3GS.As per the iPhone Dev team, Ultrasn0w uses the at+xlog crash as an injection vector of unlocking payload and its does so exactly as it does with the iPhone 3G.Together with 24Kpwn exploit found in iPhone 3GS bootrom, ultrasn0w will be able to be used on the iPhone 3GS for unlockers, without any modifications whatsoever.

A warning though is that ultrasn0w injection vector will be lost if user update to upcoming iPhone OS software 3.1 using the official Apple IPSW, which also updates the baseband. Until a tool is released that allows user to update the firmware without updating the baseband, any upgrade to firmware OS 3.1 will break the unlock.

If you are someone who is worried about losing your S60 Symbian cellphone, Phone Guardian can help you put rest to your worries.

Phone Guardian is a mobile security anti-thief software for your Series 60 v3 Symbian smartphones. In case your mobile is forgotten or stolen, Phone Guardian will allow you to remotely secure and auto lock your Symbian mobile by sending a lock SMS.

Once you have locked the cellphone using Phone Guardian, it stays secure and in order to unlock it you need to send an SMS. Also, you can enable Phone Guardian to send automatically a secure SMS, with information that allows you to catch the thief. This is by default enabled on SIM Change.

Image: Phone Guardian lets you search for lost mobile phone.

Key Features of Phone Guardian Software are:

Remote mobile lock and unlock with lock SMS

Phone Guardian becomes active (locks the mobile, emits the siren) when a different SIM card is inserted or on lock SMS.

Operator specific and location information is automatically sent to the number specified, including the number of SIM, IMSI and CellID numbers. You can then use this data to map the location of the cell phone using CellToMap.

Siren option can be put on and off.

Uninstall possible only with secure password.

Phone lock is independent from phone restart. This means that if you have locked the phone, it cannot be unlocked by restarting. The only way to unlock the phone is by sending a specific sms with password details.

Do note that this software is useful for mobile phones which run on Symbian 9.1 Series 60 3rd Edition Operating System. Click here for a complete list of compatible devices.

Download Phone Guardian. Remember, Phone Guardian is a shareware application and you would be required to pay after the free trial period for the software is over.
